ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organisation of more than 9 million people around the world taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
We believe the fight against poverty isn’t about charity, but about justice and equality.
Whether lobbying political leaders in world capitals or running cutting-edge grassroots campaigns, ONE pressures governments to do more to fight AIDS and other preventable, treatable diseases in the poorest places on the planet, to empower small-holder farmers, to expand access to energy, and to combat corruption so governments are accountable to their citizens. Cofounded by Bono and other activists, ONE is strictly nonpartisan.
ONE’s 9 million members are critical to this work. They come from every walk of life and from across the political spectrum. They’re artists and activists, faith and business leaders, students and scientists. They take action day in, day out — organising, mobilising, educating, and advocating so that people will have the chance not just to survive, but to thrive.
ONE teams in Washington, D.C., New York, London, Johannesburg, Brussels, Berlin, Paris, Ottawa and Abuja educate and lobby governments to shape policy solutions that save and improve millions of lives — and which every year are under threat from cuts and other priorities.
ONE is not a grant-making organisation and we do not solicit funding from the public or receive government funds. ONE is funded almost entirely by foundations, individual philanthropists and corporations.
10 years of ONE
Ten years ago…At ONE, we believe injustice in the world is a preventable, treatable condition, one that can be cured by dealing with an underlying malaise – something called apathy. ONE is an experiment in anti-apathy on a global scale.
Some of our proudest accomplishments include:
Helping secure at least $37.5 billion in funding for historic health initiatives, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Helping secure legislation in the US, Canada and EU on transparency in the extractives sector to help fight corruption and ensure more money from oil and gas revenues in Africa is used to fight poverty.
Successfully advocating for official development assistance, which has increased globally by $35.7 billion between 2005 and 2014.
Helping to get new US legislation passed on energy poverty: the Electrify Africa Act of 2016.
ONE’s sister organization, (RED), was founded in 2006 to engage businesses and people in the fight against AIDS. (RED) partners with the world’s most iconic brands that contribute proceeds from (RED)-branded goods and services to the Global Fund. (RED) Proud Partners include: Amazon, Apple, Bank of America, Beats by Dr. Dre, Belvedere, Claro, The Coca-Cola Company, MCM, Salesforce, SAP, Starbucks and Telcel. (RED) Special Edition partners include: aden+anais, Alessi, ALEX AND ANI, Andaz, Baxter of California, Bombas, Fatboy USA, Fully, Girl Skateboards, Le Creuset, Nickelodeon, Mophie, S’well, Wanderlust and Vespa.
To date, (RED) has generated more than $500 million for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, to support HIV/AIDS grants in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia. 100 percent of that money goes to work on the ground – no overhead is taken. Global Fund grants that (RED) supports have impacted more than 110 million people with prevention, treatment, counseling, HIV testing and care services.

As a legal matter, ONE is a combined effort of two related non-profit, non-partisan organizations, the ONE Campaign and ONE Action. The ONE Campaign is organized under section 501(c)(3) of the Unites States Internal Revenue Code. The ONE Campaign raises public awareness and educates policy makers about the importance of smart and effective policies and programs, which are saving the lives of millions of people living in the world’s poorest countries. ONE Action is organized under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and engages in grassroots and direct advocacy with policymakers and key influencers around the world in support of such policies and programs.
